Quinn could feel the discomfort rolling off of her husband in waves with each necessary evil of intimate touching this doctor had to do in order to properly examine her. She just held tight to his hand and kissed it every so often between little physical shifts from the discomfort of the whole thing. There was nothing remotely sexy about gynecological examinations, they were icky and embarrassing and she was very glad when that portion of the exam came to an end and the doctor rolled the untrasound equipment over.
This was it, the big moment they were waiting for, this was where they would know for certain that everything was going along the way it should and if they could start that list of names and fight again over the theme of the nursery and of course, finally feel free to tell their friends and family about the little Evans on the way.
Her hand tightened in Sam’s and she winced again as the doctor squeezed out the cold gel onto her stomach and started up the machine. Quinn’s eyes flicked to Sam’s and then across to the monitor as the doctor moved the transducer probe against her skin and the definite sound of a rapidly beating heart filled the room. Quinn’s eyes then flicked up to the doctor, who was yet to say anything. “Is everything okay? The not talking is making me nervous…”
“Yes, yes, I’m sorry… everything looks good, just needed to take a moment to make sure of things before saying anything…”
“Oh…” she blinked up at him as he paused again. “So the baby is healthy then?”
“Oh yes, both of them appear perfectly healthy… I suppose congratulations are in order, Mr. and Mrs. Evans… you’re having twins and they both look perfect…”
Finally the stupid part was over and the doctor was rolling out some sort of equipment. This was it. He was going to get to hear little Sammy Jr’s heartbeat. Or little Samantha’s. He couldn’t wait. He watched, mystified, as the doctor rubbed this thing across his wife’s still small stomach and then a rapid beating filled the room.
Sam let Quinn take charge and ask questions. She had been through this before so he figured it was safe to let her steer the ship so to speak. He bit his lip through everything, worry filled his mind. That is until the doctor announced that both babies looked good. Oh my God. Two. Twins. Dos. Like one for each of us. Oh my God… His mind was going a mile a minute and he just looked at Quinn and smiled. “Baby…we are having two babies…” he murmured before kissing her lips.
